Accelerated Reader

A.R. is a reading program that helps teachers and librarians manage and monitor students' independent reading practice. Students pick books at their own reading level and read it at their own pace. When finished, the student takes a short quiz on the computer. (Passing the quiz is an indication that they understood what was read.) A.R. gives both students and teachers feedback based on the quiz results, which the teacher then uses to direct ongoing reading practice. Students using A.R. choose their own books to read, rather than having one assigned to them. This makes reading a much more enjoyable experience as they can choose books that are interesting to them. Teachers and librarians help your child choose books at an appropriate reading level that are challenging without being frustrating, ensuring that your child can pass the quiz and experience success.

Determine if the book you have has an AR quiz associated with it. If it's an AR book, you can find out the reading level and points. You can also read a short summary and determine if it's part of a series.
